How big was this news in Canada?

Re: Neil Peart RIP
A great Canadian born and raised in my neck of the woods. Most times, when musicians that I haven't seen live I don't bat an eye, but in this case I genuinely regret it.

When I was still at school I got a weekend job at Hammersmith Odeon. As one of the perks of the job was getting in to gigs free I continued to work the weekends after leaving school.
One of the gigs I went to was Rush in 1980 when they were on the Permanent Waves tour and that was an excellent gig. The next morning I was working at the Odeon and one of the jobs was clearing up the backstage area, I walked on to the stage and there was Neil Peart's drum kit it was massive I found some drum sticks and gave it a quick bash drums, symbols, bells and the massive gong at the back.
I didn't see Rush play again until 2013 when they did the Clockwork Angels tour.
RIP Neil Peart.

Have been a rocker all my life, and despite my mates being massive fans from the mid '70s, I only got into them about ten years ago, but always knew they were GREAT musicians.
Gutted that I missed out on those early tours.

blasted "Exit stage left" on the way to work. RIP sir.

Start with Ghost Rider. If you like that, you'll like the others.

If you listen to later Rush compared to early, Geddy's voice changed massively. To the point where more recently they detuned half a step for Temples of Syrinx live, as I assume he couldn't get close to singing it in the pitch they recorded it.

Re: Neil Peart RIP
A terrible loss of an amazing drummer and lyricist.

40 years later I can still recall the out-of-this-world buzz I got on hearing 2112 for the first time.

Anyway, how DOES Geddy Lee's voice get so high? (One for those WHO old-timers still on the forum)...

Re: Neil Peart RIP
Just thought, I bet he carried on writing as long as he was able to.

Preparing myself for a posthumous book that could be a wee bit emotional.

Heard 'Bastille Day' when I was a thirteen year old, bought the 'Caress of Steel' album and never looked back. Rush are still one of my favourite bands albeit I prefer their earlier stuff, probably because I grew up with it. RIP Neil, both my favourite drummer AND lyricist ;-(

As If my night can't get any worse.

So sad,

Amazing wonderfully talented drummer.

Adored and inspired so many and I'm not a drummer.

I know my fellow rock brothers on Who will be gutted.

Rip Neil.

Farwell to a King.
